Mexico's Wine Country

Where to Enjoy Mexico’s Breathtaking Wine Country

Valle de Guadalupe, Mexico’s most renowned wine region, is a smooth 90-minute drive from the California border. Though this area receives most of the acclaim, Mexico boasts many other regions rich with “wine and dine” experiences that most people don’t know about.

The catch: you have to venture deeper into Mexico’s breathtaking wine country—to regions best traveled by cruise.

Follow our lead to learn all of the great spots along the Pacific coast to enjoy flavorful foods, smooth wines, and gorgeous scenery. Get ready…we’re heading to Mexico’s wine country.

Our first stop is along the tip of the Baja California peninsula: Cabo San Lucas.

Sunset Monalisa

The magic is in the name. The cuisine is as beautiful as a renaissance painting. The sunsets are as stunning as Leonardo da Vinci’s palette. And the wine flows endlessly like the waves that crash on the rocky coast below.

Sunset Monalisa is one of the most spectacular restaurants in Los Cabos. Chef Casiano Reyes exceeds every expectation with creative food and wine pairings you won’t find anyplace else in the region. If you want to savor the best of Mexico’s wine country, then add Sunset Monalisa to your list.

Sunset Monalisa was ranked one of the Top 10 Best Restaurants in Mexico by TripAdvisor, so we recommend making a reservation before your cruise date to ensure you get the best view in the house.

The Wine Bar by Romeo & Julieta

This is a true-blooded wine cellar that will exceed the most studied sommelier’s palate. The Wine Bar by Romeo & Julieta boasts top-rated wines from all over the world. By visiting, you will have the opportunity to explore the entirety of Mexico’s wine country. An entire section of their menu is dedicated to wines produced at Mexico’s most famous terroirs, from Valle de Guadalupe to Valle de Parras, San Miguel de Allende and more.

The Wine Bar by Romeo & Julieta boasts a communal space, inviting guests to mingle with other aficionados by an outdoor fire pit, around a three-sided wrap-around bar, or seated at a large communal table.

Our next stop is just North of Cabo San Lucas at the port of Loreto.

Wine Cellar @ Nopolo!

When it comes to a great wine tasting experience, the scenery has an influential impact. Wine Cellar @ Nopolo overlooks the Gulf of California with a welcoming desert/lowland appeal that readies the taste buds for delicious wine.

We love this spot because of their clever wine pairings, which allow you to sample their menu of classic Mexican dishes, cheese plates, Spanish meatballs and more. This is the perfect spot to pop-in midday, catch the sunset and sip on smooth Mexican wines, so be sure to add it to your list!

If you have your heart set on Baja California for your next cruise experience, travel Princess Cruises Royal Princess or Grand Princess. View sail dates here.

Our final stop: Mazatlan.

Topolo

The final stop on our tour of Mexico’s breathtaking wine country is a place rich with history.

Topolo has a magical aesthetic. The interior is inked with bright colors, decorative trimmings, antique furnishings, and an open atrium courtyard. Their wine bar is quaint and intimate. They boast wines from all over the world, but, more importantly, those of their home country. Topolo also carries Casa Madero, which is produced in Parras, Caohuila in Northern Mexico at the oldest winery still in production. It’s over 400 years old!

If you want to add a trip to Mazatlan to your Mexico vacation, then travel with Holland America on either the Koningsdam, Oosterdam, or Eurodam. Click here to browse upcoming sail dates!
